For parents sharing care across two homes

One rota for two homes.

KidRota gives both parents the same calm calendar. Pick a pattern once and it fills in months ahead. When plans change, ask for a swap, and nothing moves until it's agreed.

How it works

Three steps, and the calendar is the same on both phones.

  1. Set up your family

One parent creates the family and invites the other. Add each parent's name and colour, the children, and your usual handover, such as school pick-up.

  2. Pick a pattern

Choose a pattern, the start date and who starts, and KidRota builds the calendar months ahead. Christmas, school holidays and birthdays go in as one-offs without breaking the pattern.

    Alternate weekends2-2-32-2-5-5Custom
  3. Agree changes

Pick the days you'd like to swap, and the days you'll take in return if you want to, with a short reason. The other parent can accept, decline or suggest another day. Once agreed, both calendars update.

Common patterns, built in

Each shows one fortnight, starting on a Monday. If yours doesn't fit any of them, draw your own.

The rest of the week, in one place

Around the rota sit the clubs, the jobs and the details both homes need, shared with the other parent and kept up to date for both of you.

Events that know the school calendar

Add one-off or recurring events, such as swimming every Tuesday. A recurring event can follow the school holidays, so a term-time-only lesson skips half-term and the holidays on its own.

A shared to-do list

Note the jobs that come with sharing care, from a form to sign to new school shoes, and tick them off. Both parents can see who's doing what and what's still open.

An agenda on your home screen

The widget lists the days ahead, showing who has the children each day with that day's events and to-dos underneath. You can see the week without opening the app.

A shared information vault

Keep the details both homes need in one place, such as school and club contacts and clothes and shoe sizes, so neither of you has to ask by text. The vault isn't for health or medical information.

Built so neither home is favoured

One version of the truth

Both parents see the same calendar, the same requests and the same history.

Nothing changes until it's agreed

A swap stays Pending until it's answered, so nobody plans around a change that hasn't been agreed.

A clear record

Every request and reply is logged with the date and time it was made.

Calmer messages

A message helper suggests a calmer way to say what you need, ready to send on WhatsApp or by text. KidRota has no chat of its own.

Only what's needed

For the children, KidRota asks for first names and month and year of birth. No adverts, and your information is never sold.

Neutral wording

Each parent is shown by the name they chose. No labels, no sides.
